2010 Citrus Sale
The Friends of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony donated 1,870 pounds of fresh grapefruits and oranges to the Gemma Moran Food Bank. The Friends annual citrus sale includes the option to donate to the food bank. Many people do so and Computer Sciences Corporation gives a substantial donation for that purpose. The Friends raise money for the Eastern Connecticut Symphony organization and the Gemma Moran Food Bank receives fresh fruit in this win-win situation. The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra is part of the national League of American Orchestras Feeding America Program. Don Gordon, Chair of the sale, worked hard with a staff of volunteer sellers. A dedicated group put in hours distributing the citrus from a store front at the Waterfall Shopping Center in Waterford. They braved many hours in a less than ideal place to make sure that customers were able to pick up their fruit. In addition to the fruit, poinsettias were on sale coordinated by Emmy Higgins, Bettie Proctor, and Diantha McMorrow.
