Victor Norman Solo Concerto Competition ~ May 2, 2009
The Victor Norman Solo Concerto Competition is open to instrumentalists in grades 7-12.
- The work of choice should be one movement from a concerto which is available with an orchestral score. It is imperative to select a work for which orchestral parts are commonly available.
- Applications for the Competition must be post marked no later than April 29, 2009.
- The application must be accompanied by a check for $25.00 made out to the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Youth Orchestra.
- Winners will be chosen by judges who are musicians with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra.
- There will be three places awarded: 1st place -- $100; 2nd place -- $75; 3rd place -- $50.
- The judges reserve the right to choose no winner.
- All entries must be approved by the ECSYO Board of Directors.
- An accompanist is recommended, but not mandatory.
- The ECSYO Board of Directors reserves the right to limit the number of contestants.
- The 1st place winner will perform as soloist with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Youth Orchestra at the next Winter Concert.
- The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be presented with their checks at the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Youth Orchestra Spring Concert.
- Auditions will be held from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Leonard J. Tyl Middle School, 166 Chesterfield Road, Montville, CT 06370.
- Order of play will be determined by the order in which applications are received.
- The competitor is requested to bring 3 copies of the music they are performing.
- The judges will keep any piece of music that is copied and discard it appropriately after the competition is over.
- Works that have NOT been performed recently may be given greater consideration.
- Previous first place winners in an ECSYO competition are ineligible.

Mozart: Concerto #2 in D Major
Chaminad: Concertino for Flue
Strauss: Concerto #1 op. 11
Mozart: Concerto #19 in F Major K 459
Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 1
Elgar: Cello Concerto
