The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Youth Orchestra (ECSYO) strives to bring motivated and dedicated musicians challenging and rewarding opportunities to perform the highest quality literature. Students will develop advanced ensemble and performance skills that will promote artistic and personal musical growth. Our student musicians will work under the direction of exceptional professional conductors, musicians and coaches. The Youth Orchestra is directed by Joan Winters, Orchestra Director of Clark Lane Middle School and Waterford High School Orchestra.
Students in grades 8-12 (or younger based on playing ability) rehearse weekly on Monday or Tuesday evenings from September through May at Clark Lane Middle School in Waterford, CT. In addition to the December and April concerts, the group gives an annual performance at the Garde Arts Center, and sponsors the annual Victor Norman Solo Concerto Competition and a Kermode Scholarship for a graduating senior.
The ECSYO has served the communities of southeastern Connecticut for over forty years to enhance students' personal and school orchestral experiences. As a non profit organization, the group is funded by community grants, donations and membership dues.
