Instrumentalists up to age 24 are pre-screened by tape. The finalists compete in front of judges who make their decision while the audience takes an intermission for refreshments.
First prize:
Cash award of $3,000 and a possible solo appearance with the ECSO
Second prize:
Cash award of $1,500
Third prize:
Cash award of $750

First Place:
Stephen Charles Page, Jr. age 24, a doctoral candidate at the University of Iowa performed Tomasi: Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra
Second Place:
So Jin Kim age 23 currently attending Rice University in Houston, Texas performed Sibelius: Violin Concerto in D.
Third Place:
Sarah Rommel age 19, cellist attending the Curtis Institute played Bloch: Schelomo
