School Administrators and PTOs, take note!

Programs For Elementary and Middle Schools.
All programs are approximately 45 minutes in length.

I. American Sampler
Trio of musicians gives an overview of American folk music including Negro spirituals, sea chanteys, and blue grass. Vocalist sits in an Appalachian Mountain rocking chair as a stage setting prop. In addition to more conventional instruments, the banjo, mandolin, dulcimer, and penny whistle are used. Narrator can easily highlight specifics that reinforce curriculum. General descriptions emphasize history, geography, and sociology of the music.

II. Music of the Sea
A trio of costumed performers examines our strong regional ties as expressed in words and music. History and geography are stressed. Narrative can be used to emphasize naval history, trade, etc.. The history of music is explored both as a means of making tedious work a more compatible team effort, e.g. sea chanteys, "Heave Ho My Lads" and as relaxation after a hard day's work. Instruments include banjo, guitar, concertina, bass and penny whistle. Approximate Cost: $525

III. Jazz Alive
Quintet of performers presents history of jazz in the United States. Audience participation includes a jazz funeral procession and possible conducting. Bright brassy bold sounds get and hold the attention of the students.

IV.Island Rhythm
Quartet of musicians explores music of the islands with roots in the African slave culture. Instruments include bongos, percussion instruments, brass, and bass.

VI. Cajun Gumbo
Quintet of musicians presents interactive program of music from the Bayou country using fiddles, etc. plus washboards and other unusual instruments. Narrative is educational and engaging.

VII. At the Hop
History of Rock and Roll. Quintet of musicians uses several instruments to entertain and educate at the same time. Lively format uses interactive narrative that holds the attention of the students and the teachers as well.
